Knebworth House Education and Preservation Trust (KHEPT) has been awarded a Sandford Award for the sixth time and has now successfully held the Sandford Award for excellence in heritage education since 2001.
KHEPT offers education programmes for students of all ages. Using first-hand source material, its experienced educators bring Knebworth House’s extraordinary history to life. The multi-award-winning educational visits offer a range of curriculum-linked and bespoke programmes to suit the needs of all groups. Carefully designed to support the National Curriculum, the programmes are both fun and inspiring.
The programmes cover a range of subjects across the curriculum, including History, English and Science, as well as offering cross-curricular opportunities. All educational programmes are delivered by a highly regarded team, with an emphasis on hands-on activities, and take place in a safe environment where students can enjoy Knebworth House’s unique historic setting, exciting learning activities and stimulating outdoor spaces.
The Education Team is now taking provisional bookings for the 2027 season and would be happy to discuss your education visit needs for the year ahead. Please email groupbookings@knebworthhouse.com or visit www.knebworthhouse.com/education for further information.
The Sandford Award is the quality mark for heritage learning and provides validation for heritage sites and services that offer a formal learning programme supporting the relevant curriculum across the home countries. The scheme began in 1978 and is managed by the Heritage Education Trust in partnership with Lincoln Bishop University and supported by Historic Royal Palaces. The Award is considered one of the most respected and enduring benchmarks of quality in the heritage learning sector.
Sandford Award Assessor commented:
“Walking through the layers of history at Knebworth is a truly special educational experience. Skilled guides help learners to identify objects and areas relating to their area of study, in a multi-sensory learning environment. There is national and local historical significance here, where those associated with monarchs lived, plus the connection between the indoors and the natural world. Sessions encourage creativity and observation. From the walled garden, maze, herb garden and parkland to a house with a Tudor core, and now a Gothic exterior complete with gargoyles and turrets, the options for learning outside of the classroom are vast. Importantly it is delivered with a warm welcome and personal touch to ensure educational groups make the most of their visit.”
Chairman of Knebworth House Education and Preservation Trust, Bob Rutter commented:
“The Trust is very proud of its education programmes. We have a fantastic Education Officer, Katherine Dunstan, and team of highly regarded guides who all work extremely hard to deliver unique and stimulating education programmes for students throughout the Home Counties and beyond. We are delighted to see this rewarded with a Sandford Award.”
