Knebworth House, Hertfordshire has made starring appearances on the big screen in major feature films, series and music videos over the past 50 years with highlights including: The Crown, The King’s Speech, Batman and YOU.
Now Knebworth House are inviting visitors to step behind the camera with their new ‘On Location at Knebworth House’ Tour which includes a 1-hour film tour of Knebworth House, access to Knebworth Gardens and film exhibition, followed by refreshments.
This exclusive film tour of Knebworth House will take visitors through the filming locations of Netflix’s Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, YOU and The Crown as well as other blockbusters like Batman and Transformers. The expert guides at Knebworth House will be telling the fascinating story of filming from the location’s perspective.
On display for the On Location at Knebworth House Tours are some of the costumes used during filming at Knebworth House in The King’s Speech, Victoria and Abdul and Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.
Costumes worn by Helena Bonham Carter (Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother), Guy Pearce (Edward VIII, The Duke of Windsor) and Eve Best (Wallis Simpson) form the display for The King’s Speech (2010) in the Banqueting Hall of Knebworth House where scenes were shot between 11th – 15th January 2010. Visitors to Knebworth House will see the costumes close up and read information and quotes from the costume designer Jenny Beavan.
In the State Drawing Room of Knebworth House there is a display of costumes worn by Dame Judi Dench (Queen Victoria) and Ali Fazal (Abdul Karim) in Victoria & Abdul (2017) which was filmed in the October of 2016 with Knebworth House doubling for Balmoral, Queen Victoria’s Scottish retreat. The Victoria & Abdul (2017) costumes on display in Knebworth House were designed by Consolata Boyle.
The Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020) display comprises of the Volcano Man helmet worn by Will Ferrell (Lars Erickssong), and a replica of the Jacket he was wearing in the sing-along scenes shot at Knebworth House in 2019.
These exciting displays are part of the Screen Tourism Development Programme, by the Visit Herts’ destination recovery strategy.
