Please note: no camping is available at Knebworth House, but there are many fantastic campsites nearby.

Schedule a day at Knebworth House

Knebworth House is near to both campsites allowing you to walk, cycle or drive to it for a family day out. The stunning gardens, the deer park of over 250 acres and the adventure playground allow lots of outdoor entertainment. Also the dinosaur trail, which is open until the end of September, is sure to entertain children.

Where ever you camp near Knebworth, there is plenty for families to do. Explore the countryside by foot or bike and try and leave the car at the campsite to make the most of the great outdoors. Days trip options are vast so be sure to include Knebworth House and plan your trip to ensure you see it all.

Family Camping Fun at Knebworth

You don’t just have to visit Knebworth for the day, why not camp in the area and make it a family holiday? There’s no shortage of activities for the whole family to enjoy and the summer isn’t over yet, so set up camp and plan your stay. Embrace rural living in the country for family sightseeing, adventure seeking, food tasting or just time together.

The benefits of camping

Camping is a beneficial holiday for children as spending time outdoors is said to boost creativity, increase confidence and encourage exercise. It’s also reported that spending time outdoors can reduce the risk of children developing myopia and it can improve their concentration and challenge ADHD. It’s cost efficient accommodation and often dogs are permitted in campsites, so you don’t have to leave part of the family behind.

Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome in Knebworth Park, but are not permitted in the House, Gardens, Dinosaur Trail or inside Fort Knebworth; working assistance dogs may be taken into all areas.

Staying in Hertford

Hertford Campsite offers over two hundred pitches and is close to Hartham Common which has a leisure centre, fishing, kayaking, and endless walking options. If you don’t have the camping kit then glamping is an option. Hertford Readycamp is packed with glamping tents which come with beds, kitchen equipment and lights, so you can travel light and still enjoy all the benefits of sleeping outside. On the 8 and 9 September, the free Hertford Heritage Weekend offers entertainment for all ages including a Horrible Histories trail and the castle will be open for free on 9 September. In nearby Bramfield, a pet dog racing event is being held on 16 September, so if you can enter if you have a dog or just take the family for free entry and a barbecue.

Stevenage camping and events

Another nearby camping site is Church Farm in Stevenage which is working farm and boasts a variety of walking trails, cycle paths and play areas. If the weather is fine then take the children to Fairland Valley Park for a run around the lake, if it’s raining then Partyman World of Play is a soft play adventure. If you’re camping on 23 September then a fundraising day will be held at Stevenage showground with a bouncy castle, food stalls and live music.
