On Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th August from 10am-5pm (last admission 4pm), Oakleigh Fairs will return to Knebworth House with the Country, Crafts & Steam Fair.
Event Details
The event aims to offer something for everybody with many superb shows and displays, featuring but not limited to: The Equestrienne Horse Stunt Display Team; Knights of Honour; fighting knights and medieval village; the FANY’s Historical Display Team on horseback; birds of prey flying displays; terrier racing; children’s entertainer Mario Magic; the goat show including bottle-feeding lambs and kids; children’s petting pens; historical re-enactment; and demonstrations of rural skills.
Perhaps the greatest invention of the industrial revolution, there is something magical about steam engines. The whirring turbines and the tooting pistons of the giant machines shrouded in a cloud of steam never fail to spark the imaginations of young and old alike. The fair will feature full size steam engines and scale models, which will be brought into the arena for a parade accompanied by a commentary explaining more about the unique machines.
Jez Avery’s Stunt Bikes and Buggies will keep the whole family on the edge of their seat as he performs his nail-biting show full of stunts, tricks and the new roll over quad. Throughout the death defying show Jez will be providing his entertaining commentary on his own stunts.
If you are looking for something safer but equally exciting, there will be plenty of crafts, including: besom broom making, spinning and weaving, basket making and thatching. In addition to this, an array of unique Art, Craft & Gift products that aren’t available on the high street will be on sale in the marquees and from the outside trade stands.
Alternatively you can relax with a drink from the licensed bar and enjoy some music.
Dog Show
On Sunday 12th, there will be The Companion Dog Show, which includes a “Waggiest Tail” category! So bring along a canine friend and have a go. Entries begin 12:00 noon and cost £1 per category; all proceeds go to Marie Curie care. The judging will commence at 1:00pm and the top three places will be awarded with envied rosettes.
Price
Tickets booked online before the day of the event qualify for a 10% discount off the full-price of £9.50 for ages 3 and above, or £34.00 for a family ticket/group of four. Tickets will be available at the gate on the day at full price. Park & Gardens entry is free for Season Ticket holders and children under 3. House tickets can be purchased at a supplement of £3.50 for adults, £3.00 for senior citizens / children.
It’ll be a great day out for the whole family at fantastic value as included with the price of Park & Gardens entry are: the Country, Crafts & Steam Fair event, the Adventure Playground with Fort Knebworth located in 250 acre Deer Park, and the 28-acres of Formal Gardens which features the Garden Sculpture Exhibition, an Edwardian maze and the trail of 72 life-sized pre-historic creatures.
Parking
There is ample free parking at the show site, the Adventure Playground, and Barns carpark. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome in the Park and show area (but not the House, Gardens or inside Fort Knebworth).
