\u201cSTATELY HOME IS GOING POP\u201d, wrote The Evening News in May 1974, \u201cA Stately Home is to open up its gates to thousands of discerning fans in a summer pop extravaganza.\u00a0 A one-day event of modern progressive music will take place in Knebworth Park, Herts., on Saturday July 20 and it is thought that up to 100,000 may attend.\u201d\u00a0 And so it began.\u00a0 On 20th<\/sup> July 1974\u00a0\u00a0 The Allman Brothers, The Doobie Brothers and Van Morrison became the first Knebworth Concert headliners.\u00a0 It\u2019s a shame that Van Morrison is not coming back this Saturday 20th<\/sup> July to mark the 50th<\/sup> Anniversary of Knebworth Rock Concerts.\u00a0 But in the absence of a 2024 concert, we will be marking the anniversary with an update of my 30th<\/sup> Anniversary book, now entitled \u2018Knebworth \u2013 50 years of the greatest rock venue in the world!\u2019.<\/p>\n

Trying to find the perfect cover for the book, I set myself the challenge of making a denim jacket with a sewn patch of every headliner that has played Knebworth Park.\u00a0 The challenge then was to find someone to sew every one of those hundred patches on!\u00a0 Brilliantly Dogan Sahin at Knebworth Alteration took on the challenge, and the beautiful jacket will have made its debut by the time you read this on the Knebworth Twinning float in the Ch\u00e2telaillon parade.\u00a0 If you want to see the jacket \u2013 and I promise you it looks even better in colour \u2013 please join us for a talk I will be giving \u2018Celebrating 50 Years of Knebworth Rock Concerts\u2019 in Knebworth House on Wednesday 4th<\/sup> September in aid of Knebworth Twinning.\u00a0 Tickets from knebworthtwinning@gmail.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n
