{"id":580,"date":"2017-10-04T14:10:43","date_gmt":"2017-10-04T14:10:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/knebworthhouse.com\/blog\/?p=580"},"modified":"2017-10-04T14:10:43","modified_gmt":"2017-10-04T14:10:43","slug":"august-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/knebworthhouse.com\/blog\/?p=580","title":{"rendered":"August 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>120 years ago this week \u2013 4<sup>th<\/sup> August 1897 \u2013 was an auspicious day for the village of Knebworth.\u00a0 The man behind much of the planning of New Knebworth, who created, remodeled or inspired many of its beautiful buildings \u2013 the foremost architect of his day \u2013 Edwin Lutyens, married my great-great-aunt Emily Lytton in St Mary\u2019s Church.<\/p>\n<p>As a relation, earlier this year, I was fortunate to be invited to a gathering of 100 members of the Lutyens family to celebrate the opening of a large hotel and restaurant complex in the old Midland Bank building in the City of London, designed by Edwin Lutyens, and now named after him, \u201cThe Ned\u201d.\u00a0 It is a splendid adaptation of a building that had lost its use, into something vibrant and modern that retains its architectural features and significance.<\/p>\n<p>Would that we were having such success here, with some of Knebworth\u2019s dormant buildings.\u00a0 Still, I hope this week \u2013 or at least this month \u2013 we can also celebrate the good and auspicious news of one of our buildings springing to life again.\u00a0 I\u2019ll see you in the Lytton Arms \u2013 to raise a glass to Uncle Ned and Aunt Emily!<\/p>\n<p>Henry Lytton Cobbold<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.knebworthhouse.com\">www.knebworthhouse.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>120 years ago this week \u2013 4th August 1897 \u2013 was an auspicious day for the village of Knebworth.\u00a0 The man behind much of the planning of New Knebworth, who created, remodeled or inspired many of its beautiful buildings \u2013 &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/knebworthhouse.com\/blog\/?p=580\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[17],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-580","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-17"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.2 -
