I visited Downton Abbey last year.\u00a0 I sat next to Mrs Patmore, the cook, at dinner.\u00a0 Before dinner we went downstairs, for a tour of the old servants\u2019 halls.\u00a0 It was the first time Mrs Patmore had ever been downstairs at Downton Abbey\u2026<\/p>\n

You\u2019re thinking, he\u2019s finally lost it.\u00a0 Maybe you think I lost it long ago!\u00a0 But all of the above is true.\u00a0 Although, of course, I am talking about Highclere Castle and the actress Lesley Nicol \u2013 two of the stars of the TV show Downton Abbey.<\/p>\n

This month I am delighted to announce that Downton Abbey will be visiting Knebworth House at Christmas.\u00a0 I shall be welcoming Spratt, the Dowager Countess of Grantham\u2019s butler, to give our fireside readings of Charles Dickens\u2019 A Christmas Carol in the Banqueting Hall on Saturday 10th<\/sup> and Sunday 11th<\/sup> of December.\u00a0 Traditionally this popular perennial event sells out, so have your valet or ladies maid visit our website to reserve your place.\u00a0 And be swift about it.\u00a0 Jeremy Swift about it.<\/p>\n
