Every historic house that relies on visitors for its survival would like a \u201cBrideshead Revisited\u201d or a \u201cDownton Abbey\u201d to raise its profile.\u00a0 Knebworth House has hosted Miss Marple, Poirot, Inspector Lynley, DCI John Barnaby, Detective Superintendent Christopher Foyle and others over the years, but we\u2019ve yet to become the masthead for a television show.\u00a0 Last year, however, we did welcome \u201cBrideshead Revisited\u201d director Charles Sturridge and star Phoebe Nicholls (husband and wife since those heady 1980s days at Castle Howard) to Knebworth House to film Daphne Du Maurier\u2019s \u201cThe Scapegoat\u201d for ITV.\u00a0\u00a0 The house features prominently in the production as the home of \u201cLady Spence\u201d, played by Eileen Atkins.\u00a0 The film premieres on ITV on Sunday September 9th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Look out for it – as I\u2019ve been told by a friend who saw a preview at the Du Maurier Festival in Cornwall in May that, as Cliff Michelmore would say, \u201cit was really rather good\u201d.<\/p>\n
