Greetings from Balmoral…\u00a0 well, Knebworth House actually, but Knebworth House decked in tartan and hunting trophies and full of men in kilts.\u00a0 For currently we are home to King George VI and expecting a visit from Winston Churchill.\u00a0 Winston Churchill, of course, has visited Knebworth House before (his painting of the Banqueting Hall hangs there), but then he didn\u2019t look suspiciously like Timothy Spall.\u00a0 And over there is the King\u2019s consort, Elizabeth, who when she was a teenage Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon used to pop over to Knebworth House from St Paul\u2019s Walden for her dancing lessons (in what is now our Indian Exhibition) \u2026 but then she didn\u2019t look quite as much like Helena Bonham Carter.\u00a0 The King, however, now he does look familiar.\u00a0 He was here last summer, looking perplexed on the doorstep.\u00a0 But then he wasn\u2019t the man in the skirt \u2013 then we were St Trinian\u2019s School and that was Rupert Everett, the Head Mistress.\u00a0 This time we\u2019re Balmoral and we\u2019ve let Colin Firth into the house, to play the stuttering King George in a film to be released in the autumn currently titled \u201cThe King\u2019s Speech\u201d. \u00a0\u00a0Who knows, maybe one day they\u2019ll make a film with actors playing Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter visiting Knebworth House\u2026 but they will probably shoot it on location at some other house!<\/p>\n
