\u201cIf I\u2019m honest, I thought it would be really boring.\u00a0 However I really enjoyed looking around!!\u201d\u00a0 It is always a pleasure at the end of the year to look back through the public visitor\u2019s book that’s kept in the entrance hall of Knebworth House.\u00a0 For 2009 there are 12 pages of lovely comments from visitors of all ages and all nationalities.\u00a0 Most are about how good our guides are \u2013 \u201cthe warmth and enthusiasm of our guide made it the best tour we\u2019ve ever done!\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 I notice the ones praising Matt Allison are mostly female! \u00a0There are two negative comments in the 12 pages \u2013 one about plastic pots in the garden and the other about signs to the entrance \u2013 and we are content to have constructive criticism along with the positive reviews.\u00a0 Perhaps most rewarding, are the ones in large erratic joined-up letters – for instance, Jemma, aged 8, from Cheshunt writes, \u201cWonderful house (I WOULD LOVE TO LIVE HERE.)\u201d; and unsigned, \u201cfabtastic day I loved it so much I don\u2019t want to go\u201d (or maybe that was one of the guides!).\u00a0 We wonder how many historic houses the Knight family from Ipswich have visited when they say Knebworth House is \u201cthe best preserved historical building we\u2019ve seen\u201d, but we\u2019ll take praise where we get it!<\/p>\n

Also pleasing is the number of comments from foreign visitors.\u00a0 We seem to have almost every American state represented, and I see Thailand, Hungary, Norway, Brazil\u2026 of course, for all I know, some of these comments could be damning \u2013 or obscene! – but \u201cMuchas gracia\u201d and \u201cEs ist wunderbar\u201d sound promising.\u00a0 Recognising the interest we receive from abroad, this month we\u2019ve put our first foreign guide on our website \u2013 Jasmine from Lille shows you our key pages in French at http:\/\/www.knebworthhouse.com\/index_fr.html.\u00a0 Goodness, there\u2019s even somebody in the visitor\u2019s book from \u201cPark Lane, Knebworth\u201d!\u00a0 And there it is, my favourite comment of 2009:\u00a0 \u201cFanks!\u201d<\/p>\n
